Somaesthetic Experience and the Viewer in Medicean Florence
Viewers in the Middle Ages and Renaissance were encouraged to forge connections between their physical and affective states when they experienced works of art. They believed that their bodies served a critical function in coming to know and make sense of the world around them, and intimately engaged themselves with works of art and architecture on a daily basis. This book examines how viewers in Medicean Florence were self-consciously cultivated to enhance their sensory appreciation of works of art and creatively self-fashion through somaesthetics. Mobilized as a technology for the production of knowledge with and through their bodies, viewers contributed to the essential meaning of Renaissance art and, in the process, bound themselves to others. By investigating the framework and practice of somaesthetic experience of works by Benozzo Gozzoli, Donatello, Benedetto Buglioni, Giorgio Vasari, and others in fifteenth- and sixteenth century Florence, the book approaches the viewer as a powerful tool that was used by patrons to shape identity and power in the Renaissance.

Commemoration: The American Association for State and Local History Guide serves as a handbook for historic site managers, heritage professionals, and all manner of public historians who contend daily with the ground-level complexities of commemoration. Its fourteen short essays are intended as tools for practitioners, students, and anyone else confronted with common problems in commemorative practice today. Of particular concern are strategies for expanding commemoration across the panoply of American identities, confronting tragedy and difficult pasts, and doing responsible work in the face of persistent economic and political turmoil. The Hestenes Saga, 1580-1988
Mons Elias Mattiasson Hestenes (1867-1912) was the twin brother of Ingebrigt and the son of Mattias Hestenes and Anne Marie Eikenes of Hestenesoyra, Gloppen parish, Sogn and Fjordane Co., Nordfjord, Norway. In 1888, Mons emigrated from Norway to America and was met by Rasmus Didrikson Hestenes who had emigrated in 1871 and was living in Seely Twp., Faribault Co., Minn. He lived and worked with Rasmus until 1894, when he returned to Norway. Later in 1894, he returned to Minnesota and married Rasmus' only daughter, Anna Rodina Didrikson in 1895. They were the parents of seven children: Amanda Maria, Rhoda Mathilda, Marie Cornella, Magnus Rudolph, Ellen Adina, Arnold Didrik and a still born baby girl. The family lineages are traced in Norway to 1580. Descendants are traced to 1988.
